Circle Treat Cups Ornament Tutorial

As promised yesterday, here is the ornament tutorial. Today’s ornament is essentially the same as yesterday’s, just a different color scheme. Check this post if you would like to see the other ornament. http://mnfroggie.blogspot.com/2012/08/treat-cup-christmas-ornament.html

Circle Treat Cup Ornament Tutorial
1. Start with a ¾” x 12” strip of designer paper.

2. Score the paper at ½” intervals all the way down the 12” length.

3. Punch all the way down one side of the strip with the Scallop Trim Border punch.
4. Fold the strip accordion style.
5. Use multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the ends of the strip to each other. I use a clothespin to hold the ends together while they dry, about 5 minutes.
6. While the glue is drying, punch two ½” circles from Glimmer paper.
7. To make the “lolly” that is in the center of the ornament, press the accordion folded designer paper down in a circle, so that the flat side is to the center and the scallop edge is around the outside. (I like to do this inside a chipboard circle to hold it in place.) Use Crystal Effects to glue the Glimmer Paper to the center of the circle.  Weight it down with something to hold it in place while it dries.
8. After it has dried, flip it over and use Crystal Effects to glue the ½” Glimmer paper on the other side.  Once again, weight it and let it dry.
9. Using the Delicate Doilies Sizzlit die, cut out two of the largest doilies from card stock and two of the middle sized doilies from Glimmer Paper. (Hint: To remove the cut out bits from the cardstock, I use a paper piercing tool to hold the “cut out bit” in place while I pick up the doily slightly from the table.)

10. Punch out the center of the cardstock doilies with a 1¾” circle punch.
11. Apply Dazzling Details to the edge of the front of both cardstock doilies and set them aside to dry. (I applied it thickly, it will shrink up almost flat when it dries, but it will take at least a couple of hours to dry.)

12. Use a 1¾” circle punch to cut out the center of the two Glimmer paper doilies. These doilies are two small to hold inside the punch while cutting, and centering the punch is hard. In order to get the circle punched properly, I first cut a circle out of a large Post-it note. Then I placed the Post-it on the Glimmer paper circle so that the hole lined up with the center of the doily.

13. Then I could hold on to the Post-it and use this as a guide inside my punch. You should end up with two narrow rings of Glimmer paper.

14. Using glue dot, attach one of the smallest Vintage Faceted designer buttons to the ½” Glimmer paper circle on the lolly. It is hard to stick things to Glimmer paper, so I used four glue dots all along the edge of the back of the button. They won’t show on the finished product.

15. Do this on the other side of the lolly, too.

16. Put one of the largest self-adhesive Rhinestone Basic Jewels on top on each button.

17. Cut a piece of Bakers Twine to use as the string for the ornament. I wanted a long string so I started with about 20” of string.

18. Loop the Bakers Twine around one of the scallops on the lolly. Then, pull it tight gently.

19. Now that your lolly is complete, you will need two Circle Treat cups.

20. Take the backing paper off of one of the cups.

21. Carefully position the lolly inside that treat cup and adhere the twine to the adhesive part of the cup.

22. Take the adhesive off of the second cup and place it over the first cup, locking the lolly in place between the two cups.

23. After the Dazzling Details is dry on the cardstock doilies, apply a thin circle of Multipurpose Liquid Glue along the back as shown in the photo. Then put it around one of the treat cups.

24. Put a thin line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue around the back of one of the Glimmer paper circles and glue it on top of the doily on the ornament.

25. Glue the second doily and Glimmer Paper circle to the other side of the ornament.

26. About half way up the Bakers Twine, tie a knot. Then add a bow as a finishing touch.

27. Ornament completed!

Treat Cup Christmas Ornament

Recently, I attended a meeting where we were asked to bring an example of a creative way to use Stampin' Up!'s circle treat cups. I decided to try to use two of them and this is what I came up with.

Paper: Gumball Green, Champagne Glimmer Paper, Candlelight Christmas DSP
Accessories: Circle Treat Cups, Delicate Doilies Die, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, Scoreboard,
Scallop Trim Border punch, Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine, Vintage Faceted Designer
           Buttons, Self Adhesive Rhinestones
I was really happy with how cute this turned out! I am working on a tutorial for creating this ornament and I will post it tomorrow, so check back if you would like to see how to put it together! ETA - tutorial is now posted, see it here! http://www.mnfroggie.blogspot.com/2012/08/circle-treat-cups-ornament-tutorial.html

Christmas in July

Hi Stampers, I have a Christmas card for you today! Are you wondering why I would be making a Christmas card here in the middle of summer? Well, I send out almost 200 handmade Christmas cards each year, so it is never too early to start.

            Stamps: Easy Events

Paper: Crumb Cake, Gumball Green, Very Vanilla, Be of Good Cheer DSP
            Ink: Black Stazon, Gumball Green
Accessories: Blender Pen, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, Gumball Green Satin
Stitched Ribbon, 2-1/2" Circle punch, 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch, Scallop
                    edge punch, Dimensionals

This card is simple but fun! The base is Crumb Cake cardstock, with a piece of Gumball Green satin stitched ribbon tied all the way around it. I used the Scallop Edge punch on a little strip of Gumball Green cardstock and attached that to the bottom of some striped designer paper from the Be of Good Cheer paper pack. I stamped the image from the Easy Events stamp set on Very Vanilla in Black Stazon and colored it with Gumball Green ink and a blender pen and added Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details on the berries. I punched that image out with a 2-3/8" Scallop Circle punch and matted it with a 2-1/2" Gumball Green circle, then attached it to the card front with Dimensionals. Viola, hope you like it!

Lace Rosette Christmas Card

Well, here I am finally back with a card for you. This card is very similar to one in the November issue of the SU demonstrator’s magazine, Stampin’ Success. I just changed the color scheme, greeting and embellishments slightly to have it just the way I like it. I found that a lot of stampers had questions about how to make the rosette, so I am going to do a photo tutorial showing you what worked for me.

Before I start the tutorial, I will go over the basics for the rest of the card. I started with a 3-7/8” x 5-1/8” piece of Crumb Cake Cardstock, and I stamped the greeting from Hand-Penned Holidays in Island Indigo Classic Ink. Then I rubbed it with an Embossing Buddy and I stamped the snowflake (from Serene Snowflakes) in Versamark all over the Crumb Cake piece, but trying not to cover the greeting. I then used white embossing powder and heat embossed the snowflakes. I adhered this Crumb Cake piece to a 4x5¼” piece of Whisper White Cardstock. Then I added the ribbons. There are actually three pieces of ribbon on this card. First I adhered two pieces of Island Indigo Ruffled ribbon around the cardstock, overlapping them about half way. This made them wide enough that they looked pretty topped with a piece of Whisper White 3/8” Taffeta Ribbon. I used Sticky Strip on the back of the cardstock to adhere the ribbon, because I think it needs a strong adhesive to hold all this ribbon.  Then I adhered the entire panel to an Island Indigo card base. After that all that is left is to explain how I made the lace rosette.

Lace Rosette Tutorial
1.Start with a 1”x6¼” of Whisper White cardstock.

2.Use your Simply Scored score board to score it at ½” intervals (1/2”, 1”, 1½”, 2”, 2½”, etc).

3. Turn the cardstock over and score at the ¼” and ¾” marks, all along the cardstock. You will end up with a score line between each of the marks you made in step 2. You must score before you punch!

4. Punch the scored cardstock with the Lace Ribbon Border punch. This size cardstock is too small to show all of the detail of the punch, as you see in the example, one side is cut flat instead of having the curved edge.

5.Fold the cardstock back and forth along the score lines. Use a bone folder to get a good crease.

6. Apply a small amount of Tombow Mulitpurpose Liquid glue to the last ¼” piece of the lace, and glue that to the first ¼” so that you create a ring.

7. Clip the two ends together and leave them to dry for a few minutes.

8.(Optional)Apply a little Tombow Mulitpurpose Liquid glue in random areas around the outside of the cardstock, then sprinkle on Dazzling Diamonds. Leave it to dry for a few minutes.

9.Punch a 2-3/8” scalloped circle out of Island Indigo cardstock.

10. Apply a puddle about the size of a dime of Crystal Effects to the center of the scalloped circle.

11. Put your Lace Rosette ring on the scalloped circle, so that the curved edges are down and the flat side is up.

12. Gather the top into the center and press down to flatten the white cardstock.

13.  Press the gathered center into the crystal effects and make sure it is lying neatly (not too neatly, don’t make yourself frustrated over this, because you will be covering the center up eventually).

14.Put something on top of the rosette to hold it in place while it dries. You want something heavy enough to hold it but not heavy enough to smash it flat. I used a button container. Leave it to dry at least  ½ hour, possibly longer depending on your climate.

15. Use a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punch it once with the Scalloped Lace Border punch. Cut out one of the center flower elements to use on top of your rosette. You can either cut this out by hand, or punch it out with a ¾” circle punch. If you use the circle punch you may have to clean up any messy edges by hand.

16. Apply a little Tombow Mulitpurpose Liquid glue to the back of the flower element and glue it down on top of the rosette.

17. Cover the hole of the flower element with one of the largest sized Basic Rhinestones.

18. Adhere to your card with Dimensionals.

That’s all there is to it. I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial!
