Circle Treat Cups Ornament Tutorial



As promised yesterday, here is the ornament tutorial. Today’s ornament is essentially the same as yesterday’s, just a different color scheme. Check this post if you would like to see the other ornament. http://mnfroggie.blogspot.com/2012/08/treat-cup-christmas-ornament.html

Circle Treat Cup Ornament Tutorial
1. Start with a ¾” x 12” strip of designer paper.




2. Score the paper at ½” intervals all the way down the 12” length.

3. Punch all the way down one side of the strip with the Scallop Trim Border punch.
4. Fold the strip accordion style.
5. Use multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the ends of the strip to each other. I use a clothespin to hold the ends together while they dry, about 5 minutes.
6. While the glue is drying, punch two ½” circles from Glimmer paper.
7. To make the “lolly” that is in the center of the ornament, press the accordion folded designer paper down in a circle, so that the flat side is to the center and the scallop edge is around the outside. (I like to do this inside a chipboard circle to hold it in place.) Use Crystal Effects to glue the Glimmer Paper to the center of the circle.  Weight it down with something to hold it in place while it dries.
8. After it has dried, flip it over and use Crystal Effects to glue the ½” Glimmer paper on the other side.  Once again, weight it and let it dry.
9. Using the Delicate Doilies Sizzlit die, cut out two of the largest doilies from card stock and two of the middle sized doilies from Glimmer Paper. (Hint: To remove the cut out bits from the cardstock, I use a paper piercing tool to hold the “cut out bit” in place while I pick up the doily slightly from the table.)

10. Punch out the center of the cardstock doilies with a 1¾” circle punch.
11. Apply Dazzling Details to the edge of the front of both cardstock doilies and set them aside to dry. (I applied it thickly, it will shrink up almost flat when it dries, but it will take at least a couple of hours to dry.)



12. Use a 1¾” circle punch to cut out the center of the two Glimmer paper doilies. These doilies are two small to hold inside the punch while cutting, and centering the punch is hard. In order to get the circle punched properly, I first cut a circle out of a large Post-it note. Then I placed the Post-it on the Glimmer paper circle so that the hole lined up with the center of the doily.


13. Then I could hold on to the Post-it and use this as a guide inside my punch. You should end up with two narrow rings of Glimmer paper.


14. Using glue dot, attach one of the smallest Vintage Faceted designer buttons to the ½” Glimmer paper circle on the lolly. It is hard to stick things to Glimmer paper, so I used four glue dots all along the edge of the back of the button. They won’t show on the finished product.


15. Do this on the other side of the lolly, too.

16. Put one of the largest self-adhesive Rhinestone Basic Jewels on top on each button.



17. Cut a piece of Bakers Twine to use as the string for the ornament. I wanted a long string so I started with about 20” of string.

18. Loop the Bakers Twine around one of the scallops on the lolly. Then, pull it tight gently.


19. Now that your lolly is complete, you will need two Circle Treat cups.

20. Take the backing paper off of one of the cups.

21. Carefully position the lolly inside that treat cup and adhere the twine to the adhesive part of the cup.

22. Take the adhesive off of the second cup and place it over the first cup, locking the lolly in place between the two cups.


23. After the Dazzling Details is dry on the cardstock doilies, apply a thin circle of Multipurpose Liquid Glue along the back as shown in the photo. Then put it around one of the treat cups.


24. Put a thin line of Multipurpose Liquid Glue around the back of one of the Glimmer paper circles and glue it on top of the doily on the ornament.


25. Glue the second doily and Glimmer Paper circle to the other side of the ornament.


26. About half way up the Bakers Twine, tie a knot. Then add a bow as a finishing touch.


27. Ornament completed!

Treat Cup Christmas Ornament

Recently, I attended a meeting where we were asked to bring an example of a creative way to use Stampin' Up!'s circle treat cups. I decided to try to use two of them and this is what I came up with.

Morning Cup Get Well Card

Hey, I'm back! Three posts already this week, maybe I will finally be shaking the mothballs off my poor blog! Here is a fun Get Well card for you today! I made it for this week's Sketch Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.






The base is Crumb Cake. I added another Crumb Cake layer on top of that, this one embossed with the Stripes embossing folder. I used the Delicate Doilies Sizzlet die and cut out the largest doily from Baja Breeze cardstock. I used one of the Finishing Touches Edgelits to cut the edges of a strip of Soft Suede cardstock and a piece of designer paper from the Floral District pack, then layered them and adhered them over the bottom half of the doily. Next a piece of Soft suede taffeta ribbon was tied around the card. I cut out a 2" Very Vanilla circle using the Circles #2 Bigz die and stamped the image in Black Stazon onto the circle. Both the teapot and image and the "perk up" greeting are from the Morning Cup set. I colored the teapot using a blender pen and Baja Breeze, Marina Mist, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Early Espresso inks. Then I sponged all around the edge of the circle with Soft Suede ink. I stamped the "get well soon" greeting in Basic Black ink on Very Vanilla cardstock, and punched it out twice using the Decorative Label punch to get this label shape.
